My thoughts after reading the beginning...

I think that she has everything she wants, she has money and love. I know that she doesn't want to leave El Rancho de las Rosas. She is happy living there. But there will be some reasons why she has to leave El Rancho de las Rosas.

  1. How far are you in the book? I read three chapters last night and wanted to comment but don't want to give away any events. I do have some general thoughts I'd like to share with you.
I have always been intrigued by chapter titles in any book. Some authors choose to just use numbers but here Pam Munoz Ryan used fruits and vegetables and even flowers. Anything that grows. I love seeing what a new chapter is named both in Spanish and English. I just finished the chapter
    Las Almendras (almonds).
Next I wanted to comment on the word, mija. I just love this word. Ellie and I recently read a book on the Day of the Dead and the abuelita in the book always called her grand-daughter "mija". I think I would like to use that word as a term of endearment for Ellie. She is my mija.
I have much more to comment about but will wait until you and Ms. Shipp have read further.
I am so glad that I am reading this book and it is fun to talk about it with others.
